I was recently speaking with my veterans association (VA) doctor and she shared an interesting insight with me. Now right off the bat there's no sound data here and this was her opinion from her experience and I just thought it was interesting.
She told she was a psychologist for over 20 years before she came to the VA where she has been for the last 3 years. In her work before hand she could only remember one or two cases of sleep apnea, as for her time in the VA almost half of everyone she sees was diagnosed with it.
I am wondering why this is? Could it be something from the training, chemicals we work with, deployments, or maybe just something as simple as military folk having easier access to the testing?
Just looking for people's opinions on this, and to put my thoughts on paper. I was thinking of using this topic for my journalism course so if enough people put in their two sense I might be able to really get into the weeds and find out more!
