Sleep Apnea Solved? Can I self-test if it's my nose or mouth?

I believe I've found the reason for my sleep apnea.

So I did some tests. I purposefully dehydrated myself for 7 days in a one month period so my post nasal drip was unable to occur. I also increased the humidity on my sleep apnea machine. During those days, I got a much better night's sleep.

I had a couple days recently where my post nasal drip was so bad in my sleep, that I was unable to breathe through my nose and forced to breathe through my mouth. These were both on nights I forgot to wear my mask.

I've seen an ENT once a few years ago, and they told me that because my septum is so deviated, my nose is heavily inflamed which can cause breathing issues.

I've been thinking about putting off getting my deviated septum fixed because I think having my nose straightened at the same time may assist more in my breathing and they'd have to realign my septum, but now I'm thinking that the crux of my problem is the fact that I hardly breathe out of my nose. The only times I actually find myself actively breathing through it is either for very brief moments during the day, or when I wake up with my apnea machine on.

I don't have a lot of money and it's hard to see a doctor in person right now due to the COVID situation, so I was just thinking - If I did a test where I taped my nose shut and put my CPAP pressure on 1 and humidity on the lowest, versus taping my mouth shut and doing the same, and recorded my apneas for each process over a couple of weeks, do you think I could get some accurate results to find out whether or not I apnea more thru my nose or mouth?
