When is it “too early” for a sleep apnea diagnosis?

Recently, I’ve started to pay closer attention to my boyfriend (26M) sleeping at night. He does the quintessential “pauses” in between breaths at times — it goes on long enough that I often stop what I’m doing and wait to listen out of concern, to make sure he breaths again. He also grinds his teeth at night, falls asleep incredibly quickly, and wakes easily.

The thing is, other than at night, he doesn’t seem to have problems with fatigue, headaches, etc. We’ve talked about possible sleep apnea in passing but it doesn’t seem urgent.

Wondering if it’s “too early” for sleep apnea? Should I be ringing alarm bells and pushing him to get tested?
